Two Years of Metaphysical Review:
_________________________________

With this cumulative issue of "Metaphysical Review: Essays on the
Foundations of Physics" we complete two years of publication. We continue to
grow, essentially following the growth of the world-wide-web. We have grown
from 153 to 801 readers this year. Geographically we have expanded from 42
to 52 countries. One of the interesting features of our growth curve is that
it is structured by the academic calendar. We see a brief slow down in growth
during the winter/Christmas holidays, and a major slow-down over the summer.
This was true a year ago, but with much lower statistics it was harder to
see.

In the `Mast-head' of the journal you may have noticed that the name
of the journal now includes a subtitle: "Essays on the Foundations of
Physics". This was included to clarify to potential subscribers and writers
that this journal is interested in the foundations of physics. This has made
my life simpler. A year ago half of all material submitted to me dealt with
"new age religion". Now the material submitted is much closer to physics.

We have become a journal with referees. I still read and screen all
article, but they are then submitted to a referee. Still, I need more
referees. If any reader is interested in becoming a referee please e-mail me,
and include a brief resume, a list of topic you would read, and the frequency
with which you would referee. A review may be as little as a paragraph, or
as detailed as the referee would like.

In this past year we have reprinted articles on three occasions. This
has entailed extensive work between myself and the editors and legal
departments of Cambridge University Press and Physics Today / American
Institute of Physics. Both places tell me that they knew that electronic
re-printing was coming, but they wrote there policy to accommodate us.
Cambridge released about 30% of an essay - since the book was still on the
market. Physics Today released the whole article. They had no intention of
reprinting - so this gave the article a second life. I expect we will use
this experience in the future.

The web continues to grow, and this site with it. In the past year
we have appeared in the list of
Association of Research Libraries, The Chronicle of Higher Education, WILMA.
We have also been selected as a
"Top 5% of the Web" by pointer, and will be featured in "PC Computer Guide's
Internet On CD Magazine".

All this exposure and growth I think will translate into one important
feature of the next year. With more readers and more recognition we should
attach even more potential authors, and I expect that we will be able to be
more selective in what we publish, and be able to raise the quality of this
journal.

In conclusion, I remain optimistic about the future of this journal,
I have enjoyed frequent communications with readers and writers from all over
the world, and I look forward to the third year of
"Metaphysical Review: Essays on the Foundations of Physics:.
